Loves: My family and our pets, Jack, the golden retriever and Lucy, the cat.
My career. It is truly a humbling experience for someone to select me to help them in buying or selling their home. I believe in educating the buyer/seller to the extent that when the time comes to make a decision, they will have the same knowledge about their marketplace that I have. To think that when I am responsible for someone moving into a home, that they are going to eat there, sleep there and possibly raise a family there, it is an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. One of the biggest assets a person may ever have is their home and I am grateful for this opportunity to make it all possible!
Hobbies: Reading (when time permits!)
I also love doing genealogy. I was very close with my grandmother who taught me about genealogy. We spent many precious hours, when I was growing up, looking up records in old courthouses, researching old, dusty volumes of records and even traipsing through cemeteries. Sadly, my grandmother is no longer here, but I have many wonderful memories of the times we spent together. She used to wear a rhinestone flag pin on her lapel every time she would put on her Sunday best. I believe that she purchased it at McCrory's Dime Store, where you could buy just about anything for a dime, or a little amount! They also had a great coffee shop and we spent many lunches there, she having coffee and me having a chocolate shake!
I now have her rhinestone flag pin, which I wouldn't trade for real gold or jewels. I wear my grandmother's pin with pride!
I also make it a priority to spend at least one day out of the week, usually on Sunday, with my family. About two years ago, I started bass fishing with my husband, Jim. I really love going to the various locations within our beautiful state. When we are out in the lake, surrounded by all of the foliage and wildlife (yes, even alligators!), we can't help but appreciate the serenity and beauty of it all. When we are in the Everglades, I am struck by the fact that there is no equal, anywhere in the world!
Favorite Song: "Made in America" by Toby Keith
Dislikes: Things not made in America!
I have a strong desire to help and work with others to find solutions for all of the problems that our nation is facing. The issues that we have are overwhelming, but, as a nation, we must find the answers for our housing crisis, homelessness, unemployment, health care and illegal immigration. This is by no means a complete list, but these problems need to be solved, sooner, rather than later.
My daughter, Katie, was recently assigned a book by her sociology professor and was so amazed by the book that she asked me to also read it. It is called "The Working Poor: Invisible in America" by David K. Shipler (2007).
I read the book and was very impressed by the depth of Mr. Shipler's research, but was astounded by the findings.
The astonishing things in the book were reports and statistics based on the true status of certain classes of people, their struggles, failures and accomplishments. It was absolutely heartbreaking. Mr. Shipler did a case study of approximately 7 different individuals in their quest to live "The American Myth". The author makes a case that "The American Myth" does not exist any longer, like it did during the Industrial Revolution. The myth promises that "if you work hard, you will prosper". Sadly, for certain people, no matter how hard they work, they will never prosper. I believe that we can change this and that despite all of the hardships that we are currently facing, the United States of America is the greatest country in the world!
The one item that I have at my disposal, is more powerful than a mighty sword, it's my vote.
